What: Great Feast in honor of the visiting Sir Ragnbjorn to the palace.

Events

The last performer in the great hall is the renowned half-elven Dellin of Pepez. Dellin has long curly blonde hair and soft blue eyes and when he begins to perform before the High Table for Prince Prospero, everyone in all the halls become silent in order to hear him. In fact, many of those in the adjacent halls who are sober enough, cluster around the entrance to the great hall in order to hear him better and catch a glimpse of this most famous of the surviving bards of the Hold of the Sea Princes. He sings the Ballad of the Twin Cataclysms, an old and famous ballad that tells the story of the destruction of the Suloise Imperium a millennia before and how its survivors came to the Sheldomar Valley and made peace with the Oeridian refugees who had come before them, and how together with the native peoples of the land they founded the Kingdom of Keoland.

A millennia ago and more
The great Suel Empire fell to dust
Their houses came to this Azure shore
Behind them their homes lost to power lust

For generations the empires of the Baklunish and Suel
Fought in the Sulhat mountains passes and halls
Both sides eventually called the hordes of hell
Orcs, and goblins, and worse came to their calls

The Oeridian tribes were driven away
The first to flee for the safer lands of the East
As the hordes of the empires brought dismay
To all those who were considered least

The cause of war now lost to time
But the end is still very clear
Two empires shattered in their prime
By wizards mighty wrath severe

On the Baklunish Empire the Suloise Mages of Power
Joined hands and brought the Invoked Devastation
Turning fertile lands into a burning pyre
Only the Dry Steppes now mark that ancient civilization

But the Baklunish magi-priests were not finished
In the ruins of Tovag Boragu they began to plot
They proved that their power was undiminished
The Rain of Colorless Fire they wrought

This fire burned through flesh and stone
Their cities and gardens burned in a flash
The Suloise were now overthrown
In their place a Sea of Dust and ash

And so the survivors began the Great Migration
Coming to this new land to begin anew
Theirs to choose, peace or war for domination
For the Oeridians and older folk were here too

This time the old houses chose well
With the people of the land they made their peace
Putting away murderous sword and spell
In this way they saw the prosperity of all increase

Nevermore would they allow
The evil of the Twin Cataclysms to fall
Arcane might and evil horde they would disavow
So that a new era could dawn upon them all

Dellin receives great applause for this, (of which only a mangled translation of a few of the verses have been provided), and he received many eagles (Keoland gold pieces) from the gathered nobles, and Lady Sedara even had one of the servants present him with a bouquet of flowers grown in her hothouse atop the palace. After Dellin’s performance and the serving of the Fourth Remove the feat came to an end, and the Prince-Governor bade the assembled guests goodnight. Shortly thereafter, the rest of the assembly returned to their homes or quarters in the palace, the servants began carting the dishes back to the kitchens, gathering up the linen, taking apart the tables for storage, and sweeping out the rushes.

Greyhawk Calendar

   Posted by: admin

The Greyhawk year consists of 364 days, split into twelve months of twenty-eight days each, and four seven-day festivals, each placed at three month intervals. Different cultures in the campaign setting have their own names for the months and festivals. The months and festivals are commonly referred to as the Dozenmonth of Luna and the Four Festivals.

Days in Greyhawk are reckoned in weeks of seven days each. The days of the month are: Starday, Sunday, Moonday, Godsday, Waterday, Earthday, and Freeday. Godsday is commonly associated with worship, and Freeday with rest. The remaining days are considered “work days

An interesting feature of the Greyhawk calendar is that the days of the week always occur on the same day every year, a result of the year having a number of days divisible by seven.

The first of the month is always a Starday, and the rest follow as shown below:

  • Starday is always on the 1st, 8th, 15th, and 22nd of the month.
  • Sunday is always on the 2nd, 9th, 16th, and 23rd of the month.
  • Moonday is always on the 3rd, 10th, 17th, and 24th of the month.
  • Godsday is always on the 4th, 11th, 18th, and 25th of the month.
  • Waterday is always on the 5th, 12th, 19th, and 26th of the month.
  • Earthday is always on the 6th, 13th, 20th, and 27th of the month.
  • Freeday is always on the 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th of the month.

The months and festivals are based on the cycles of Oerth‘s moons, Luna and Celene. Luna has a twenty-eight day cycle, while Celene’s cycle is ninety-one days. Celene is full at the midpoint of each festival, while Luna is full at various times throughout the year. Notably, both moons are full on Richfest 3-5.
